WILD was created eight years ago by Jason Kask and Ari Mahonen. They wanted to help their high school Nordic ski team produce another state championship team. To do this they knew they had to train hard during the summer. They came up with the idea of WILD to make summer training fun. The goal was to win. This seems simple enough. The best part...it was free! The group met twice a week for an entire summer. The only catch, no one showed up! While the first try was a bust it created the principles that Superior Performance is founded upon.
Winning: At WILD winning means reaching your goals. Setting and achieving challenging personal goals is one of life's greatest accomplishments. These personal challenges create the bar that all athletes know is extremely difficult to jump over. When someone new to running says they want to finish a marathon, and a veteran runner says they want to win one both parties can relate to the challenges each other will face because both goals are equally as daunting to each athlete.
Interdisciplinary: We believe that there is much to learn from people participating on sports other than yours. They are training in ways that may be similar to yours; you may even do the same workout every Sunday! The goal of WILD is to bring athletes from all endurance sports and get them to work together for the benefit of athletes and the sports they compete in. A triathlete may learn valuable information about cycling from a cyclist while the cyclist could learn from the triathletes experiences in time trialing before their first tt. Through these partnerships we will breed camaraderie in all aspects of sport. This is especially important in small communities where there are a limited number of people to train with, we all know that when it comes to hard work, the more the merrier!
Local: The best place for you to train is your back yard. While we all have to get out and challenge ourselves in a new arena the best place to prepare is where you are comfortable. Training locally allows you to get the most out of your time. WILD is committed to making your training more successful where you want it to be. If you have to do intervals on a track but you don't have a track we will help you find a solution.
Development: At WILD we are here to develop you as an athlete. Our goal is that you reach your goal! To do this we will help you develop all the skills necessary to do so. These building blocks will develop the culture of sport in your area.
Train Hard. Play Hard. Go WILD!
